Seeing our child struggle in school was extremely difficult for my wife and I, as we have both succeeded on our own educational journeys. We were at a loss as to how we should proceed, as the last thing we wanted to do was leave him with an aversion for learning. Upon suggestion from the school, we began using Reading Buddy, and have never looked back. The program empowers him, enabling him to be self sufficient and successful, without ever causing him to feel bad. The methodology focuses on self-learning through repetition and positive reinforcement. The software is user friendly and enables him to navigate its use without the need for parental guidance or intervention. We have also noticed marked improvement in his reading and comprehension skills. But above all else, it truly makes learning fun for him, which is more than we could’ve hoped for.

In my daughter’s grade there’s a specific fluency test and comprehension test that she needs to take 3 times a year to test her reading ability and she did not pass the first 2 tests. And when the third test came around, we were like, “We need to get something going here, we need to work it out.”  We got tutors, but she was not really interested in getting better and she was not picking up a book and she was not practicing.

So we said we need something different and when we heard of Reading Buddy Software I said “let’s do it! Let’s do it, let’s try.”  Because Reading Buddy Software wasn’t a physical book it was fun and it was exciting for her. She could get prizes and she picked it up every day. She did it every day, she earned her prizes, she earned her points. And in the end she picked up a book on her own. She said “mommy look I brought a book home from the library and I’m gonna read it” and she did.

And she passed her fluency test and she passed her comprehension test and she passed her word identification test as well. I was proud.  Really, the goal was for her to feel so much better about herself so she would start to read on her own and she did.

When my son’s school approached me to let me know he was having trouble with reading and comprehension, unfortunately I was not surprised. I was however, disappointed, overwhelmed, and at a loss. It was suggested numerous times that my husband and I work with him at home. I felt this was a poor suggestion, as I kept telling the school, “I am not a teacher, I am not a reading specialist, and I am not a special educator.” My husband and I are both college graduates who hold high level degrees, including a doctorate, yet neither of us knew where to begin to try and get him the help he needed to succeed. Then came Reading Buddy, a program designed for struggling readers! A weight had been lifted off my shoulders. This program had it all figured out – an interactive reading program with real time feedback that also focused on comprehension. I was extremely impressed the first time we used Reading Buddy. I felt that this is a very real solution to a very real problem. Additionally, Reading Buddy is extremely user friendly. My 7 year old is able to navigate his way through the program independently and complete each level and section of Reading Buddy with minimal input. I enjoy watching him use the program, and the peace of mind knowing that he is being ‘personally tutored’ in a tried and true method to improve his reading and comprehension skills is an incredible relief. I was also thrilled with the reading content. Not only are the books age appropriate, but also they are very interesting and contain useful and rare facts that my son loves repeating. As parents all we want is for our children to succeed and thrive with their confidence in tact and with the minimum amount of struggle. This program is not only improving my son’s academic performance, but it is also improving his academic confidence. Reading Buddy is a positive reinforcement program that praises the child each step of the way. At the conclusion of each level he receives points and words of encouragement. When words are said incorrectly, they are underlined until he corrects his pronunciation, and during the comprehension mini quiz, a wrong answer clicked disappears and a correct answer gets a large check. No negative feedback, no x’s, no grades. Furthermore, I must give extra credit to the developers and tech support of Reading Buddy. They are easy to reach, quick with their response time, and a pleasure to work with. Any issue or question is immediately addressed and taken very seriously. They are clearly invested in the success of this program, but more importantly, the success of my child.

Having a wonderful husband, a household to run, a full time job, and two busy children with after school activities, did not allow me the time needed to help our son improve his reading. I already knew that the way to really help a child improve was to READ (read to them, and them to me), but finding that time on a consistent basis was near impossible. Besides, we had homework to complete on top of it all! Reading Buddy Software has been a lifesaver and my son really enjoys it. He loves that it’s on the computer, and I have not heard one complaint from him when asked to do his daily lesson. This past weekend, I found him doing it all on his own without being asked. After first turn on Reading Buddy: “Wow, can I do it again? Can I do more than one story in a day?”

Now my 2 girls are fighting over who gets to use Reading Buddy first. Also, they are comparing the stories and recommending which stories to read to each other.

When my daughter started third grade it was really hard for her to read a sentence and make it sound smooth.  She would always be digesting the words and not be able to go on to the next word and it was not smooth and it just sounded like she needed some work and she needed some refining.

After she found Reading Buddy Software and really started using it, just after a few days, I could see a difference in how her fluency was changing rapidly and now when I listen to her read it’s like listening to another child of mine read.  I’m really proud of her. She’s done a great job and Reading Buddy Software has done an excellent job in helping her really becomes this excellent reader.

Having kids we all deal with making sure they’re having an easy time in school and making sure that that they have a good transition when they start the learning process. We have problems with a couple of our kids starting off and when it came to reading, we just couldn’t find the right solution until now. We found Reading Buddy Software and with our daughter, we were able to see how this program changed her entire life. Reading Buddy Software is a great system and I can only imagine how many kids’ lives this will affect and change for the good.

I’m so happy we got introduced to Reading Buddy. My daughter is not a strong reader and needs to be reminded to read. With this program she is the one who reminds ME that she has to do Reading Buddy. She looks forward to it. She loves the prizes and the exciting way of reading on the computer. The reading content is great with so many exciting choices. She is learning new vocabulary which is always a great advantage. This is definitely a program that will help many children improve their reading skills!

Our son loves the product. What I realized immediately upon his usage was that the speech passages were immediately highlighting the words he mispronounced. He then corrected himself and continued to move through the exercises. What impressed me was that the words he was mispronouncing were indeed wrong, and when I realized that the headset was telling him how to correctly say the word, he got it. I just thought that was great because I didn’t have to sit there and tell him how to pronounce the word. I know as parents, it can sometimes intimidate kids when a parent is constantly telling them what to do.

After a few exercises, my son was making his way through the product with ease and his reading was picking up. He especially liked the rewards (I set 3 points for pizza, 6 points for toys, etc.). Although he did ask did that mean I was going out to buy him pizza and toys after we finished for the night.

I work full time and have 3 kids so I don’t have as much time to read with my kids as I would like. Especially my 10 year old who has reading issues. So Reading Buddy does it for me. It’s a great comfort for me to know that while I’m fixing dinner my son is reading with Reading Buddy and that Reading Buddy is correcting his mistakes and helping him with words he doesn’t know. Having Reading Buddy is like having a clone.

We love reading buddy. Her favorite part is she got to choose her prize. It was very very exciting, very motivating. She loved being able to read and not having any adult tell her when she made a mistake. Also, I love the fact that when she was reading she not only worked on her fluency but she also had to enunciate her words as she was speaking. That was really a very big help.

I had the chance to use Reading Buddy Software for my daughter but I also am a special educator and I am a classroom teacher and I could see Reading Buddy Software being very effective and helpful in the classroom. When the teacher has many students, it’s almost impossible for them to sit there listening to each student read and Reading Buddy Software gives the opportunity for a computer to give the feedback, makes it exciting or the students to read and really all the students in the class get that individualize attention that they need while using Reading Buddy Software. And the students can also pick their reinforcements. Every student wants something different, so they can pick what kind of a prize they want and it’s also a great tool to use for homework. Teachers can ask students to read at night and then they could check on their pr ogress.

One of the things that I really love about Reading Buddy Software is my daughter was able to read it and I wasn’t being the one to have to make the corrections. I had the chance to look up the errors that she made afterwards and kind of monitor her progress without being critical of her. This way, when I read with her it could just be for fun but when she’s reading with Reading Buddy Software it’s still in a fun way and motivating but the computer is the one who is correcting her error and making her repeat any of those mistakes that she made and again, it’s in a fun way.

My son is in grade 2 and is at kindergarten reading level. He has been failing most subjects except math because he cannot read the tests. He started reading buddy just two weeks ago and even though I can read with him in the evenings he prefers to use the program instead of me. He likes the content choice and the challenge to earn prizes that I set for him. He was bored with the choice of books I provided for him. He does an average of 30 to 40 mins per day. He came home today from school so excited to tell me that he could read the science test for the first time!

My name is Suzi Barton. My brother, William Barton contacted you this past year about my niece, Ella. She has been struggling with reading since Kindergarten. She is now in the 5th grade, and I’m so happy to tell you what a HUGE difference Reading Buddy Software has made in her life!

In Texas, the 4th graders have 3 STAAR tests that they take. These are basically standardized tests.  She actually passed the reading test for the first time this year!!!  She called me this past Friday night to tell me that she just got a new track phone because that was one of the prizes she picked out to receive if she did a great job with Reading Buddy Software :). My brother and sister-in-law don’t have to beg her to read anymore :).
